My advice is students have found the right place. Temasek Polytechnic is indeed a very happening poly. There are many courses to choose from and the best part is that the electives can be chosen from any discipline, any course. Example, I can take up electives from business, IT, design, langauges or engineering even though I'm currently doing a science course. It is really interesting and I enjoy the wide selection of electives. My advice is for students to choose the course they love to do.
It is not difficult to be awarded a place in temasek poly. The important thing is not to fail english or mathematics. I did not receive any assistance from anyone. Bascially, i search for all the information online and I talked to my seniors or people I know about the courses.
The local government do provide assistance for international students by subsidizing part of the tuition fees and international students in return have to work in Singapore for 3 years.
My favourite thing about my course definitely is sensory evaluation! Sensory evaluation is part of our lab work whereby we are taught to access the quality of the food base on certain criteria like texture, mouthfeel, smell, appearance etc by tasting the food itself. It can be really interesting. I spend about 4 to 8 hours in school each day, sometimes it can be longer due to lab work. I have all the study support i need. Temasek Poly has very good library and lab facilities for us to conduct our research. It is very value for money.
In my town, there are 3 huge shopping malls, 2 cinemas and lots of facilities, very convenient but it can be really crowded. Local people can be slightly different from home and not all are friendly but they are very friendly locals too. I did not work part-time when I'm here but most of my friends did, so i think it should be easy to get a job.
After my studies, I worked in a bank and did what is very different from my course but nevertheless, i still enjoy this course.
