It was a fulfilling experience in every way. Just the studying environment itself was so engaging in that there are so many activities to take part in and so many things going on, be it academic or extra-curricular, that you find yourself learning new things all the time and being excited (or stressed) about one thing another throughout the year. Make the most out of your experience by not being afraid to do things you've never done before but lead a balanced life (i.e. don't neglect your studies at the same time).

I applied for an ASEAN Pre-U Scholarship which was advertised in my local newspaper with my secondary school academic transcripts, was called for a selection test and before I knew it, I was accepted into NJC. I just had to sign a few papers of agreement and that was it. Hassle-free.

Being a recipient of the ASEAN Pre-U Scholarship, I was sponsored by the Ministry of Education. This means my school fees were being paid in full and in addition to that, I was given a S$200 monthly allowance. The MOE also paid for my hostel fees.

The course follows a lecture-tutorial system in which the entire cohort (a few hundred students) have lectures in the morning and classes of about 20+ students have tutorials in the afternoon. I loved the academics. The assignments and tests were challenging and squeezed the brain juice out of you but the satisfaction gained at the end of it all is worth every ounce of energy put into it. Tutors go out of their way to help, encourage and inspire students, almost without fail. Weaker students are invited to one-on-one tutorials with many tutors to ensure they can keep up with their classes.

College facilities were great, from sports facilities to the cafeteria to the science labs and the hangout areas. Singapore is a great place for international students. Public transport is convenient and the streets are safe. Eating out is pretty affordable as long as hawker centers are available. I stayed in a hostel which provided spacey comfortable rooms very conducive for studying or relaxing. Many of my closest friends, I met in the hostel. Hostel food is okay as long as you're not too fussy.
